Arizona Right To Life Stands With Our State House And Senate Leaders
06/12/2025 | Press ReleasesThis week a lawsuit was filed by an out of state funded organization using their monetary influence to side step our legislative process and enact sweeping dangerous changes to our common-sense abortion laws.
This lawsuit wants to make unrestricted changes to the Arizona statutes. Our current process requires that a proposed change to our statues be initiated by a legislator from the House of Representatives or the Senate. Then the bill is assigned to a committee and the chairman determines whether to schedule the bill for a hearing. In the hearing, both sides are represented, and the public has the opportunity to weigh in on potential changes in our statutes.
The lawsuit seeks to sideline all Arizona government legislative processes, eliminating the opportunity for Arizonans to weigh in.
One of the most significant sweeps is to eliminate an ultrasound prior to an abortion. An ultrasound is the only way to determine the size of the baby, and whether the pregnancy is ectopic. If either of these are not assessed, this can be fatal to a woman. This lawsuit is irresponsible to the health of Arizona women whom we have committed to protect.
In addition, this egregious lawsuit will eliminate the Arizona statute which prohibits abortions based on the race, sex or genetic abnormality of the child.
