A complaint against the AZ Abortion Access Act has been filed with Secretary of State Adrian Fontes

(Phoenix, AZ) – Arizona Right to Life (AZRTL) delivered on their promise to challenge signatures to Planned Parenthood’s Arizona Abortion Access Act by filing an initial complaint yesterday with Secretary of State, Adrian Fontes.

The complaint cites a number of irregularities and fraud on the part of the circulators indicating there may be insufficient signatures to place the faulty petition on the ballot.

AZRTL Board Member Jill Norgaard said about the group’s swift action, "AZRTL is challenging many of the circulators who have misled hundreds of thousands of Arizonans in what the initiative is actually about. We will continue to educate voters about the falsehoods they spread while gathering signatures.”

Moreover, it is on its face misleading "while in reality opening the door to abortion up to birth without any meaningful restriction." Arizona Right to Life is challenging the deceitful language of the Arizona Abortion Access Act. Arizona law prohibits petitions that are fraudulent or create a significant danger of confusion or unfairness. “In order to collect signatures for the Arizona for Abortion Access Act, the Committee and circulators used deceptive language to mislead Arizonans into signing a radical petition that would amend Arizona’s constitution to make abortion at any point in pregnancy an unregulated right, even for minors," says AZRTL Attorney Jennifer Wright.

In recent weeks, we have seen such initiatives dissolve in other states and Arizona Right to Life intends to see through this challenge with the mounting evidence we have to do the same in Arizona. Arizona does not stand for late term painful dismemberment abortions funded by taxpayers, despite the out-of-state funders intent to codify this heinous initiative into our constitution.
